Three people are dead and dozens suffered minor to severe injuries during a Sunday night bus crash along a Pennsylvania interstate, state police said.
The two-vehicle crash took place just before 11:50 p.m. ET on Interstate 81 in Dauphin County's Lower Paxton Township, near the state capital of Harrisburg.
The wreck involved a 2005 tour bus carrying about 50 people and a 2016 Honda CRV, Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement online.
According to a preliminary incident report, the bus was traveling south on I-81 and was navigating a curve when it came upon the Honda stopped along the highway in the right lane of traffic.
The bus exited the north side of the roadway, struck an embankment and flipped, troopers wrote in the report. The right rear roof area of the bus struck the CRV.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
Troopers said the remaining people on the bus suffered injuries ranging from minor to severe and were taken to hospitals.
The Honda's occupants were taken a hospital to be treated for moderate injuries. The report did not say how many people were in the Honda or why it was stopped along the interstate.
The identity of the victims and the destination of the bus are being withheld until the victim's next of kin are notified, police said.
A photo from the scene shows the bus on its side along the interstate berm near a set of brush and tall trees.
